VFF Announces Opening of Downtown Headquarters and Box Office at Violet Crown and Addition of Acclaimed Film Mudbound To Program

Homeland Executive Producer Howard Gordon to Join Panel Discussion about Award-Winning Showtime Series

30th Annual Virginia Film Festival set for November 9-12

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – November 1, 2017 – The Virginia Film Festival officially opened its Festival Headquarters and Box Office located in Violet Crown on the Downtown Mall. Festival officials also announced that the acclaimed film Mudbound has been added to this year’s program and that Homeland executive producer Howard Gordon will be on hand for a discussion of the hit Showtime series.

The Virginia Film Festival, scheduled for November 9-12, is a program of the University of Virginia and the Office of the Provost and Vice Provost for the Arts. This year’s VFF will feature a stellar lineup of more than 150 films and an outstanding array of special guests, including filmmakers Spike Lee and Ezra Edelman, Emmy Award-winning actor William H. Macy, and noted author Margot Lee Shetterly.

Based on the novel by Hillary Jordan, and adapted into a screenplay by Dee Rees and Virgil
Williams, Mudbound is set in racially divided post-World War II Mississippi and tells the story of two men – one black and one white – who forge a friendship based on their shared war experiences. The film stars Jason Mitchell, fresh off a highly-acclaimed performance as Eazy-E in Straight Outta Compton, and Grammy Award-winning artist and actor Mary J. Blige, and has been earning significant Oscar buzz since its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Mudbound will be presented on Sunday, November 12 at 8:30 PM at St. Anne’s-Belfield.

Festival officials also announced that Howard Gordon, the executive producer of the hit Showtime series Homeland, will join a panel discussion following the screening in Culbreth Theatre on Sunday, November 12 at 6:00 PM with director Lesli Linka Glatter. Homeland is currently in production on its seventh season, which is being filmed in Richmond.
