A depressed outsider who doesn’t fit in at her office job in Japan, Kumiko struggles to deal with her domineering boss, who treats her as his servant. Deciding to abandon her structured life in Tokyo, Kumiko embarks on an impulsive quest to search for a satchel of money buried in a fictional film that is set in the frozen Minnesota wilderness. Inspired by an urban legend about a Japanese woman who took a similar journey with a VHS copy of Fargo, filmmaking brothers David and Nathan Zellner were awarded the Special Jury Prize for Musical Score at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
