In the wilds of Oregon, a tent-city descends each year, bustling with mushroom hunters searching for the elusive matsutake – a fungus requiring the melding of perfect, nourishing conditions to take root. Among the hunters, two men from different worlds labor alongside each other: Vietnam veteran Roger Higgins and Cambodian refugee Kouy Loch. Bonded by their shared experience of brutal violence, they adopt each other as family, but pain from the past lingers inflicting detrimental post-traumatic stress upon them both. This probing documentary intricately weaves family, friendship, and healing together as these men face the realities of Roger’s declining health and what may be their last season together.
