A drifter named Larry “Lonesome” Rhodes is discovered by the producer of a small-market radio program in rural northeast Arkansas. Rhodes becomes an overnight sensation, gaining great fame and influence on national television. As he becomes drunk with fame and power, he risks being exposed as a fraud and losing the public’s adoration. A Face in the Crowd was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2008.
