Filmmaker Lukas Dhort follows up his Academy Award-nominated Close with a story of love blossoming in the most unlikely of places. Pierre (Emmanuel Macchia) and Francis (Valentin Campagne), are Belgian soldiers brand new to the front lines of World War I. On the surface, they could not be more different. Pierre is quiet, and happy to blend into the background, while Francis is the wildly enthusiastic leader and star of the ad hoc theater groups that entertain their fellow soldiers. As the two face the horrors of their new surroundings, they discover and explore a connection that gives them an escape from their shared misery, finding beauty and grace where they are in woefully short supply.
