The celebrated exiled Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev returns with his first film made entirely outside Russia, and his first since nearly losing his life to COVID in 2020. Co-written with Simon Liashenko and based on the 1969 French film The Unfaithul Wife by Claude Chaborl, this riveting, mystery–thriller follows Gleb (Dmitry Mazurov), a well-to-do Russian CEO ordered by his government to conscript his workers for the brutal front lines of the 2022 war in Ukraine. Concurrently, he suspects his wife Galina (Iris Lebedeva) of infidelity, pushing him toward a breaking point. The searing domestic drama is heightened by the backdrop of war and the pervasive corruption in the country that has become a defining symbol of the Putin regime.
