Everyone is happy for rising actor GQ Qi—the network, his mother, his best friend—everyone except GQ himself. Stuck playing an offensive stereotype of Asian-Americans on a television sitcom, GQ speaks up for himself, resulting in the executive producer firing him from his starring role. GQ attempts to salvage his career by entering into a romantic relationship with a successful casting director, but as the pressure from his family, career, and love come to a head, GQ must confront the hard question: how much of himself will he compromise for career success? Discussion with director Steven J. Kung and Shilpa Davé (U.Va.)
