A REAL PAIN

Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award, Sundance Film Festival
Cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Kieran Culkin) were born weeks apart and practically inseparable while they were growing up. After drifting apart in adulthood, the two come together to make a pilgrimage to Poland to honor the life of their grandmother, a Holocaust survivor. Traveling to her hometown and many sites forever haunted by history, the two are forced to confront their shared tragic family history as well as their own individual demons.
Eisenberg broadens the scope of this highly personal tale by adding a diverse array of nuanced and comic characters who make up the tour group with whom they begin their journey – including Will Sharpe (The White Lotus) as the guide. Thanks to Eisenberg’s deft touch, audiences are treated to an unforgettable human journey that effortlessly blends comedy and drama as the film honors personal and shared history.
