A TRAVELER’S NEEDS

Iris (Isabelle Huppert), an expat, often finds herself drifting alone on the streets of Seoul. She speaks with a thick French accent, but it’s never clear where Iris comes from or where she’s meant to be going. She enjoys simple pleasures—playing a child’s instrument in the park and indulging in Korean rice wine. Unable to support herself, she is advised to become a language tutor for two Korean women despite having no qualifications to do so.
Her unorthodox teaching methods and mysterious personality leave her students and those around her searching for a deeper understanding of Iris that may never come. At its core, A Traveler’s Needs offers a gentle exploration of the cultural complexities and the surprising connections that arise amidst the barriers of language.
Introduction by Hyeyon Moon (VAFF) and Jongtaek Park (Korean Cultural Center Washington D.C).
