After Coal
Preceded by the short film Through (5 min.)
What happens after fossil fuels run out? After Coal chronicles a critical exchange between coalfield regions in eastern Kentucky and South Wales over the course of more than 30 years. The documentary invites viewers to the front lines of the transition away from fossil fuels by profiling inspiring individuals who are building a new future. From ex-miners using theater to rebuild community infrastructure to women transforming a former coal board office into an education hub, and young people striving to stay in their home communities, the stories of coalfield residents span the distance between Kentucky and Wales, illustrating the universal challenge of a world without coal.
