AMADEUS — 40th Anniversary Screening
The young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce) finds a fierce rival in the disciplined and determined Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham), a deeply religious man who resents both Mozart’s undeniable talent and hedonistic lifestyle.
Salieri is gradually consumed by his jealousy and becomes obsessed with Mozart’s downfall, leading to a devious scheme that has dire consequences for both men. Miloš Forman’s (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) masterful film won eight Academy Awards in 1985, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Abraham.
Introduction by Tim Snider (Sunday Opera Matinee)
“This is Mozart as an eighteenth-century Bruce Springsteen, and yet (here is the genius of the movie)
there is nothing cheap or unworthy about the approach.”
-Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
