Being 17
Preceded by the short film Reckless (9 min.)
Being 17 is a moving exploration of adolescent sexual awakening from renowned French director André Téchiné (Wild Reeds) with a script he co-wrote with Céline Sciamma (Girlhood). Damien is a French teenager living alone with his mother in the south of France while his father is on a military mission. Damien is bullied about his effeminate characteristics by a classmate named Thomas. Damien’s mother is blind to the harassment her son experiences at school, and invites Thomas to stay with their family when his foster mother becomes ill. Damien and Tom’s relationship remains hostile, but as time goes on, it begins to take on more depth and tenderness.
