Oscar-nominated Bill Plympton, the “King of Indie Animation,” hand-draws and directs this animated adult tale of love, infidelity, and a magical soul-transporting device. Primarily dialogue-free, the film follows the romance of Jake and Ella, who meet in a fateful bumper car collision and fall quickly into love and marriage. When Jake stoops to infidelity, however, Ella uses the help of a magician to inhabit the bodies of Jake’s numerous lovers, resulting in revenge, loss, and even murder. This giddy romp pulses with sexual humor and stunning animation, bringing Plympton’s signature surreal imagination to life. Discussion with director-animator Bill Plympton and film historian and critic Leonard Maltin
