36th Annual VIRGINIA FILM FESTIVAL October 25-29, 2023

Drunktown’s Finest

Three young Native Americans — a college-bound student, a father-to-be, and a promiscuous transsexual — struggle to escape their Navajo reservation. Sick Boy, enlisted in the Army to support his family, is at risk of getting booted before basic training; Nizhoni, adopted by white parents, has spent most of her adolescence in faraway private schools; and Felixia, a pre-op transsexual, secretly turns tricks while living with her tradition-minded grandparents on the reservation. As the three flesh out each of their own problems, they find connections to one another as their stories begin to unwind and intersect.¬†Discussion with director Sydney Freeland
