Following her sister’s disappearance, Jax cares for her niece Roki, managing to scrape by on the Seneca-Cayuga Reservation in Oklahoma. Jax desperately searches for her sister when not occupied raising Roki, which includes preparing her for an upcoming powwow. When the threat of losing custody of Roki to her white grandparents, the two hit the road, scouring the Oklahoma countryside in search of Roki’s mother.

As they continue their search, they grapple with the complex reality faced by Indigenous women in a colonized world. Director Erica Tremblay skillfully weaves a narrative that beautifully combines family drama and a poignant coming-of-age story, shedding light on the strength and resilience of Indigenous women who hold their communities together through joyful and tragic times.
