Hallowed Ground
Amid the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, Hallowed Ground explores Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, site of the bloodiest battle ever fought in the Western Hemisphere. It follows a cast of characters—from a cynical Abe Lincoln impersonator to the embattled son of a great 20th-century architect—sucked into this mythic locale that is equal parts sacred shrine and carnivalesque tourist trap. Hallowed Ground highlights how private citizens with competing views embody America’s public memory, resulting in a look at how Americans remember, market, and argue about their past. Discussion with directors Mark Rozzo, Sam Erickson, and Matthew Amster; editor Shaddei Guillaume; and moderator Rick Britton
