Slanty Eyed Mama, the duo of virtuosic electric violinist Lyris Hung and comedian/actor Kate Rigg (Dr. Phil Show, Family Guy), performs in this live stand-up comedy, sketch, and rock ’n roll spoken word concert film. Centered on Asian American tropes in Western culture such as immigration, bowl cuts, math nerds, the model minority myth, and Hello Kitty everything, their collaboration started during their student days at NYC’s Juilliard School. The two have been invited twice to the Smithsonian; featured on PBS, LOGO, and Pacific TV; and headlined major music and comedy festivals. It is an outrageous political comedy filmed in cabaret spaces, laundromats, and nail salons around New York. Discussion with director Carrie Preston
