Horse Money

As one of the most respected international filmmakers working today, Pedro Costa has slowly but steadily been adding to his filmic exploration of the dreamscape within the Fontainhas neighborhood outside of Lisbon. Following his film Colossal Youth (2006), Costa’s newest experimental docufiction continues to follow his muse Ventura, a Cape Verdean immigrant. We see other familiar faces from the previous trilogy of Fontainhas films, as they meander through the eerily textured world created by Costa’s camera and Ventura’s bruised psyche. Part ghost story, part visual poem, Horse Money is an urgent, haunting film by one of contemporary cinema’s greatest masters.
