Ellie Shine lives a good life in New York City as a single artist with a stable teaching job, successful friends, and a loyal dog. As her decades-old dream of a respectable place in the art world becomes more elusive, her frustration with her lack of recognition becomes urgent. When she is offered the summerhouse and studio of a famous friend, she uses the opportunity to reset her artistic work and creativity. In the idyllic small town, she meets three out-of-work actors, Frank, Tom and John, who each have unique ways of balancing their ambitions and their relationships. Elle reinvents her artistic identity by creating improbable recreations of old Hollywood films with the gregarious trio. This is the first feature film by artist Laurie Simmons. She stars in the film along side her daughters, Lena and Grace Dunham.
