Parallel Mothers

Described as “a little bundle of joy” by critics, Parallel Mothers is the story of two women who meet in the hospital, both about to give birth. Though they share the trait of being single mothers, their journeys up to this moment have been incredibly different. Janis, a middle-aged woman who is ecstatic to have a child, must comfort young Ana, who is traumatized and terrified of motherhood. The few words they share during this life-changing moment will create a strong link that connects them beyond their differences. Starring Aitana Sanchez-Gijon and Penélope Cruz, who was awarded Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her portrayal, the newest film from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Pedro Almodovar is an exploration of the different forms of motherhood.
