The students at Jose Urbina Lopez Elementary School face significant challenges in their lives, including poverty, violence, and absent parents. They are among the lowest-performing students in Mexico, and many believe that these students have little hope for a better future. However, a new sixth-grade teacher, Sergio (Eugenio Derbez, Coda), is determined to change the bleak atmosphere in the classroom, marked by strict discipline and rigid curriculum.
Director Christopher Zalla presents Sergio’s honest, inspiring, and heartwarming true story as he strives to reignite his students’ curiosity and grant them the chance just to be kids again. Radical paints a beautiful picture of a teacher who refuses to give up on his often-overlooked students and instead fills them with possibility, determination, and a sense of hope for their futures.
“Christopher Zalla’s uplifting tearjerker…more than earns its surging emotional payoff.”
