Legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s reimagining of King Lear follows an elderly warlord in medieval Japan who decides to cede the control of his empire to his three sons. The two eldest sons, Taro and Jiro, flatter their father and promise to support him. However, when the youngest son, Saburo, attempts to warn his father of the folly of expecting the three brothers to remain united, the warlord banishes him. Corrupted by newfound power, Taro and Jiro conspire to strip their father of his title and wealth. War ensues and only the banished Saburo can help to salvage the situation. This film will be shown in a glorious new 4K restoration.
