Robot Dreams
Preceded by the short film Starling.
Dog leads a quiet and somewhat lonely life. Growing weary of this solitude, Dog orders a robot from a TV sales channel and assembles it to unveil a friendly and enjoyable companion. Their friendship flourishes as they spend an unforgettable, adventure-filled summer in 1980s New York City. However, their relationship faces a challenge when Dog can’t take Robot home after he becomes rusty and immobile following a day at the beach. When Dog returns with tools to repair Robot the next day, he discovers the beach is closed until next summer. As the seasons change, it’s uncertain whether they will ever reunite.
Director Pablo Berger (Blancanieves) presents a heartwarming, dialogue-free animated story about the delicate nature of friendship. Adapted from Sara Varon’s 2007 graphic novel of the same title, Robot Dreams is a bittersweet story about the power, and fragility of friendship.
“One of the loveliest movies that you will see this year, animated or otherwise.”
