TAUTUKTAVUK (What We See)

Blurring the line between narrative and non-fiction, two sisters draw on their own lives and shared traumatic experience of domestic violence in this story about a shared healing journey amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Uyaruk leaves her community and family in her home of Iglooik, an Intuit hamlet in Nunavit to move to Montréal.
When the pandemic restrictions cut the Canadian Arctic off from the rest of the world, she is further separated from her older sister and best friend Sagpinak. The two connect on Zoom, with Uyarak sharing her experiences of healing from years of trauma and abuse and Sagpinak sharing stories of her days raising a family and hosting live shows about her community. When restrictions ease enough for them to be together, the sisters reunite in person to further deepen their mutual healing in this striking story drawn from the filmmakers’ own lives.
