Following the disappearance of thousands of fish in a river in southern Chile, a several decades-deceased woman Magdalena, arises from the polluted body of water. When her widowed husband sees her on the street, the surprise gives him a heart attack, prompting their daughter Cecilia to return to the family’s dairy farm to care for him. Magdalena’s resurrection naturally sparks shock, fear, and curiosity amongst her family, ultimately forcing a reckoning between themselves and the natural world. Director Francisca Alegría constructs a fantastical tale of environmentalism while tackling the intricacies of familial relationships.
This film is part of the Environmental Film Series presented by Southern Environmental Law Center.
