The Defiant Ones

This four-part HBO documentary series follows the partnership of Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre, from their beginnings as aspiring producer and musician, all the way to 2015 when they brokered one of the biggest deals in music history: the sale of Beats Electronics to Apple. The first installment traces the pasts of the two men individually, with both navigating challenging environments that would ultimately, and improbably, bring them together. Episode 3 shifts focus towards Dre’s debut solo album, The Chronic, his collaborations with Snoop Dogg and Tupac, and Iovine’s transition from music producer to music executive with the creation of Interscope Records.
