The Lady in the Van

THE LADY IN THE VAN
Preceded by the short film Elemental (11 min.)
Academy Award winner Maggie Smith brings to life the true story of the inimitable Miss Shepherd, an eccentric homeless woman of uncertain origins who lives out of her van. When Miss Shepherd meets screenwriter Alan Bennett, she asks to park her van “temporarily” in his London driveway for a few months, but ends up staying for 15 years. What begins as a begrudged favor becomes an unexpected friendship that will change both their lives, even under the critical gaze of their neighbors. Acclaimed director Nicholas Hytner reunites with iconic writer Alan Bennett (The History Boys) to bring this rare and touching portrait to the screen.
