The Lavender Scare
The longest witch-hunt in American History began in 1953 when President Eisenhower deemed homosexuals to be a threat to the security of the country. During the four decades that followed, tens of thousands of government workers lost their jobs solely on the basis of their sexual orientation. Inadvertently igniting the gay rights movement, the film serves as an example of how the rights of an entire class of people were compromised in the name of patriotism and national security.
