The Teachers’ Lounge
Official Oscar© Selection—Germany | Golden Lola (German Oscar) for Best Film
Carla Nowak, a dedicated and idealistic young teacher in her first job at a German middle school, faces a challenging situation when a series of thefts occur the school’s campus. These incidents put her easygoing relationship with her seventh-grade students to the test as the school launches a rigorous investigation. As allegations against Ali, a Turkish student in Carla’s class, begin to surface, trust within the school community shatters. This leads to judgmental students, opinionated colleagues, and irate parents.
Carla finds herself entangled in this complex web of dynamics, feeling compelled to advocate for Ali, who she believes is unfairly targeted by the school. The Teachers’ Lounge portrays the gradual unraveling of an idealist confronted with power imbalances, racism, and a quest for justice within the school environment.
