Theory of Obscurity: a Film about The Residents

Theory of Obscurity FINAL Image Play Button

Filmmaker Don Hardy investigates the infamously anonymous, avant-garde music collective known as The Residents on their 40th-anniversary tour. Exclusive archival footage cut with testimonies from fellow iconoclastic musicians pay homage to a group that refuses to cave to convention. The Residents released more than 60 albums, performed all over the world, and inspired many people to find their own voice. Hardy mirrors the renegade group’s eccentricity, while simultaneously demystifying and perpetuating The Residents’ magic.
