Associate Programmer

Joe Fab is the associate programmer for VAFF’s 2022 Short Films Series. He is an Emmy-nominated producer, director, and writer with over four decades of experience in film and video production, media, and communications. He is well known for producing and co-directing the HBO documentary Paper Clips and for producing the live premiere presentation of Maya Angelou’s poem Amazing Peace, performed by the author. His latest documentary—When My Time Comes, featuring NPR’s Diane Rehm— was screened in 2021 as a VAFF Special Event at The Paramount Theatre and is now available on PBS and Amazon Prime.

Fab’s skill and sensitivity in storytelling have earned numerous awards, including the prestigious Christopher Award for achievements in media that “affirm the highest values of the human spirit.” Since 2009 he has participated in the VAFF, where he has been honored to present two of his own films and has also served as an associate programmer and moderator for film discussions. He is a member of the Producers Guild of America, the International Documentary Association, and Women in Film and Video (DC).
