Virginia Film Festival Announces Highly Anticipated New Film Jackie and Sneak Preview of Charlottesville Native Jeff Wadlow’s Latest Film To Program

Natalie Portman Gaining Significant Oscar Buzz For Portrayal of Iconic First Lady

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – October 25, 2016 – Virginia Film Festival officials announced today the addition of two new films to the Festival’s 2016 program. Festival audiences will have the chance to see one of the most talked about films of the season in Jackie, starring Natalie Portman, and to see a special sneak preview of the latest film from acclaimed filmmaker and Charlottesville native Jeff Wadlow. Tickets for both films are now on sale at www.virginiafilmfestival.org.

The Virginia Film Festival, set for November 3-6, is presented by the University of Virginia and the Office of the Provost and Vice Provost for the Arts.

Jackie, the first English language film from Chilean director Pablo Larraín (Neruda), has earned raves at some of the world’s leading festivals this fall, and features an intimate and unflinching look at the life of one of the most iconic and enigmatic figures in modern American history. Jackie has vaulted Portman to the top of this year’s Academy Award prediction conversations for her powerful, nuanced, and unconventional portrayal of a woman navigating uncharted territory as she balances her own unimaginable personal loss with the tragedy that shook a nation and the world. The film captures events before, during, and after the assassination of JFK and is built around interactions with those in her inner circle, including her children, her social secretary (Greta Gerwig), LBJ special assistant Jack Valenti (Max Casella), her brother-in-law Bobby Kennedy (Peter Sarsgaard), and others.

Jackie will be presented on Sunday, November 6 at 11:00 AM at The Paramount Theater.

After his publisher markets his crime novel as a memoir, a novice author (Kevin James) finds himself forcibly recruited into a deadly political plot in Venezuela. Virginia filmmaker Jeff Wadlow (Kick Ass 2, Bates Motel, Non-Stop) will present a sneak preview of his latest action/comedy feature True Memoirs of an International Assassin. Jeff, a Charlottesville native, studied at Dartmouth College before completing his graduate degree at the University of Southern California. His thesis film, the tOWeR oF BabBLe, featuring narration by Kevin Spacey, won dozens of awards before taking the top prize in the Chrysler Million Dollar Film Competition. Jeff used the million-dollar grant to make his first feature film, Cry_Wolf, shot entirely on location in Richmond, Virginia, and released theatrically by Universal Studios. Each year, Jeff returns to his hometown to lead the Adrenaline Film Project, a program he founded twelve years ago to help filmmakers pitch, write, shoot, edit, and screen a short film in just 72 hours.

Jeff Wadlow Presents a Sneak Preview of his new film: True Memoirs of an International Assassin will be presented on Friday, November 4 at 9:00 PM at Newcomb Hall Theater.
