A Magnificent Life

The latest from four-time Academy Award-nominated director Sylvain Chomet (The Triplets of Belleville, The Illusionist), this breathtaking hand-drawn biographical epic is a visual feat, offering an immersive and expansive account of one of France’s greatest storytellers.

By 1955, Marcel Pagnol was one of the most acclaimed playwrights and filmmakers of his time. Now, at 60 years old, he is commissioned by the editor-in-chief of ELLE Magazine to write a weekly column about his childhood. While revisiting his artistic roots, he is visited by a spirited vision of his younger self, who reintroduces him to his first love–writing–and helps him confront the doubts that plague an artist who fears he has passed his prime.

However, Marcel’s memory soon begins to fail him, prompting a race to capture the events that shaped him in writing before they vanish forever.
