While going about her regular duties as a bailiff in Transylvania, Orsolya is tasked with evicting a homeless man from the basement of a building slated for redevelopment. This seemingly routine act produces unexpectedly disastrous consequences and sends her down a bizarre path as she struggles to confront her guilt.

What follows is a darkly comic fable of conscience in crisis, as Orsolya’s attempts to make amends only deepen her entanglement in the absurd contradictions of law, duty, and compassion. Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude infuses the story with his signature blend of biting satire and unsettling humanity, exposing the fractures of a society where the housing crisis, nationalism, the rise of artificial intelligence, and economic expansion collide.

“Reminds us of how ridiculous the state of the world is,
and how ridiculous we are for accepting it.”
