The Love That Remains

Official Oscar© Selection—Iceland

The Love That Remains is a tender, magical, and bittersweet portrait of a family in transition.

Magnús and Anna have decided to end their marriage, left to create a new normal for themselves and their two children. With his trademark blend of tenderness and quiet precision, Icelandic auteur Hlynur Pálmason (Godland) captures the reverberations of separation through fleeting moments, poignant vignettes, and playful comedy.

Following a year in the life of this family as they adjust to shifts in their dynamics and find their footing with the changing seasons, the film is a beautifully shot meditation on how love lingers and family bonds endure amidst change, offering a depiction of divorce unlike any that has been put to screen.

The Love That Remains took home the Palm Dog Award at the Cannes Film Festival (for best canine on screen!).
