The Tale of Silyan

Official Oscar© Selection—North Macedonia
A North Macedonian folktale comes to life as we follow a white stork, Silyan, and a Macedonian farmer, Nikola. Their lives intertwine when Nikola, abandoned by his family, saves the injured bird from a landfill. As Nikola and Silyan form a bond, they find solace and companionship.
From Oscar-nominated director Tamara Kotevska (Honeyland) and Oscar-winning producer Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth) comes a charming cinematic fable that tells the story of a farmer’s relationship to a white stork, interwoven with the folk tales of North Macedonia, as an allegory for environmental issues and the global migration crisis.
