Jay Duplass and Michael Strassner are recipients of VAFF’s 2025 Achievement in Screenwriting Awards, celebrating their work on Baltimorons, an indie charmer and instant Christmas classic, released theatrically earlier this year. The film premiered to raves at SXSW, and centers on a Baltimore man’s Christmas Eve dental emergency, which leads to an unexpected romance with his older dentist.
Using clips from the film, Duplass and Strassner will discuss their approach to screenwriting, and provide insight into the creative relationship between Producers, Actors, and Screenwriters.
Screenwriter, filmmaker, author, and actor Jay Duplass is known for his work with brother Mark on films such as The Puffy Chair and Jeff Who Lives at Home; they also produced the Emmy-winning documentary Wild Wild Country. As an actor, Duplass starred in the hit series Transplant and Industry.
In addition to co-writing Baltimorons, screenwriter, actor, writer, director, and producer Michael Strassner stars in it. He has also appeared in Modern Family, Young Rock, Parks and Recreation, and A Spy Movie.
