For years, baseball teams have gathered on Soldier’s Field, a small-town pitch in New England, battling each other in their amateur adult league. When a looming construction project threatens to demolish the field to make way for a new middle school, two teams, Adler’s Paint and the Riverdogs, seize the opportunity to play one final game on their beloved field.
The dugouts buzz with match chatter and disputes over calls on a crisp October day. Tensions rise between the teams, only to dissolve into ceremonial laughter as the players reflect on an era of camaraderie and friendship. Director Carson Lund’s film features a cast sprinkled with colorful Boston sports characters like Bill “Spaceman” Lee and longtime Red Sox announcer Joe Castiglione and strikes a perfect balance between nostalgia and sentiment while observing the intricacies of the rituals that underlie American suburban social life.
