Rebels on Pointe

Drag ballet dancers in costumes backstage, smiling for the camera.

In this cinéma vérité documentary celebrating the 40th anniversary of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, award-winning filmmaker Bobbi Jo Hart offers an affectionate tribute to a notorious dance company that dares to defy convention. Founded in New York City during the 1970s Stonewall Riots, the all-male, drag ballet troupe has performed in over 500 cities and 33 countries. Juxtaposing behind-the-scenes access with rich archival footage and the inspiring personal stories of several dancers, Rebels on Pointe proves that a ballerina is not only a woman dancing, but an act of rebellion in a tutu. Discussion with dancers Robert Carter and Paul Ghiselin
