Shadowman

Preceded by the short film Walkalong (8 min.)
A biographical documentary about the life of artist Richard Hambleton, Shadowman is a surprising story of art, demons, and vitality. Richard Hambleton was a prominent artist in New York in 1980’s, associated with Michel Basquiat and Keith Hering. His public Shadowman paintings that gave him notoriety were silhouettes created with black paint, splashed across hundreds of buildings across New York City in precarious or dark locations. His life fell apart after becoming addicted to drugs and he became homeless. Even in the bleakest of circumstances, he never ceased creating art. Introduction by Megan Marlatt (UVA)
