Song of Granite
The resilient life story of one of the greatest traditional singers of all time, Joe Heaney, will resonate with many. His story is told through film and archival documentary footage that captures the landscape, myths, and fables that constitute his Connemara childhood. At the center of the film is Heaney’s deep devotion to his art, sean nós (old style) Irish music, which was not accomplished without personal sacrifice. Song of Granite was chosen by a committee of the Irish Film & Television Academy as the country’s submission for Best Foreign Language Film to the 2018 Academy Awards.
