GALA SCREENING
THE LAST SHOWGIRL

Director Gia Coppola (Palo Alto) delivers a touching elegy about aging, womanhood, and redefined ambition, set against the gleaming lights of Sin City.
Pamela Anderson shines as Shelley, a proud and self-possessed woman who has been a showgirl on the Vegas Strip for her entire adult life. Now in her late 50s, she’s faced with a daunting and uncertain future, reeling from the news that her show is shuttering, after a 30-year run. Picking up the pieces of a life torn asunder, she tries to reconnect with her estranged daughter (Billie Lourd) and draw strength from the makeshift family at the Razzle Dazzle—her cocktail waitress best friend Annette (Jamie Lee Curtis) and the stage manager Eddie (Dave Bautista), with whom she shares a checkered and complicated past.
In following Shelley offstage, Coppola imbues the dancer and her younger coworkers (Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka) with a subtle majesty. Bolstered by Anderson’s dramatic finesse, The Last Showgirl examines the trials, vulnerabilities, and inner strength of a woman figuring out her self-worth when her ever-present spotlight is shut off.
“A requiem for any woman who has ever been underestimated”
-Maureen Lee Lenker, Entertainment Weekly
“The role of a lifetime for Anderson, one that can fully capture her incredible emotional intensity”
-Kate Erbland, indieWire
