The Red Turtle

Preceded by the short film The Magic Motley (7 min.)

A man has been thrown overboard from an unidentified vessel, and finds himself on a deserted island populated by turtles, crabs, and birds. The first international co-production from animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli, The Red Turtle follows the man’s trials on this tropical island without any dialogue. Though the man first tries to escape the island, a giant red turtle thwarts his plans, and soon the man finds a companion on the island. The film is quiet but insightful, recounting the milestones in the life of a human being, even in the most unexpected of locations.
