Day of the Fight

Mike Flannigan, or “Irish,” as his friends call him, is a weathered boxer diligently preparing for his highly anticipated return to the ring at Madison Square Garden. Michael C. Pitt (Boardwalk Empire) gives a stunning performance as the former middleweight champion, recently free from a prison sentence for a DUI crash.
As he prepares to face off against a new champion, Mike looks to reconnect with figures from his old life while silently battling a severe medical condition. Nodding to the tradition of underdog boxing stories, Day of the Fight elongates the day of Mikey’s preparation and becomes a story of self-sacrifice and forgiveness. Underscored by rich black-and-white photography, Jack Huston’s directorial debut captures a captivating emotional journey about second chances with utmost sincerity.
Discussion with writer/director Jack Huston (VAFF Achievement in Screenwriting Award), moderated by Kevin Fallon (The Daily Beast).
